SALE 2017

Waratah Sale Report 2017

Sale day 2017 was sunshine, clear skies and warm weather here at Waratah.  What more could any stud breeder ask for?  Waratah was a buzz with bidders travelling from far and near to inspect this year’s sale offering.

Cattle sold to new and repeat buyers from as far north as Rockhampton, south to Victoria and east to New Zealand.  Bidders present and online were from five states across Australia as well as New Zealand and Canada.  Competition was hot amongst the bidders pushing bull prices to a high of $19000.  Waratah Look At Me was the top selling bull at only 22 months of age and was purchased by Ben Wesley from Big Star Speckle Park stud in Hillston, NSW.  Justin and Amy Dickens of JAD Agriculture, Yeoval, secured the second top price bull Waratah Lucky Charm’z for $18000.  We are thrilled to once again produce two top selling sires bred by our own bulls Waratah J57 and Waratah Speckled Gold G25.  We celebrated a full clearance with 45 bulls offered averaging $8333.  Two Brahckle bulls were offered in this year’s sale averaging $7250.

The 21 stud heifers were also in high demand, reaching a staggering $17 500 and averaging $9928.  The top priced female Waratah Amy M93, was an exceptional 11 month old heifer sold to Andrew and Gabrielle McKinnon in Kapunda, South Australia.  The McKinnon’s were among the volume buyers taking home a PTIC heifer for $13 000 and seven stud weaner heifers averaging $11 643.  Waratah Spanish Angel M95 was the second highest selling female at $16 000, and sold to Matthew Black of Sunnydale Speckle Park, Jiggi.

Five PTIC stud cows topped at an astonishing $15 000 and averaged $12 600.  Twenty-two PTIC commercial heifers reached $3700 and averaged $2688 while twenty-three commercial first-cross heifers averaged $1771.

This year we were excited to offer bidders the first ever Pick of the Herd Flush.  Never before offered at our sale, the successful bidder, is entitled to pick one female to flush from our entire herd.  Colin Shields from Oakey in Queensland secured this opportunity for $7250.  Thirty-six embryos were offered at this year’s sale averaging $1050.  The top selling embryos, Yogi Goes Red Neck 7Y X Waratah Spanish Angel F12, sold for $1250.  Seventy straws of semen were also in high demand at this year’s sale topping at $850/straw.  The average semen price was $252/straw.

Our 2017 sale was a huge success and it could not have been possible without the support of our clients.  We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the bidders and under bidders present at the sale and online.  We value your support and hope your purchases serve you well.  We look forward to what 2018 brings.
