Colin Say & Co summed it up like this.

The first  sale for any stud breeder certainly leaves you with a few sleepless nights leading up to the event, this would have been no different for the Turnham family of “Waratah” Guyra, selling 102 Speckle Park lots on Monday 14th July 2014.

These lots consisted of Speckle Park bulls, Brahckle bulls, Embryo lots, Cow and calf units, PTIC females, unjoined yearling heifers and commercial PTIC heifers. With gale force winds blowing for two days leading up to the sale it took the Landcruiser ute to hold the Marquee to the ground, but this did not stop the sale from being a huge  success.

Waratah H44

Waratah H44

The top priced bull was Lot 14 Waratah H44which sold for $12,000 to Van Derdrift Sons Pty Ltd of Macorna Victoria. The Van Derdrift family were volume buyers, purchasing 22 lots, including the top priced female Lot 76 for $8000. The Van Derdrift family run a piggery which turns off 35,000 pigs annually. The family were attracted  to the Speckle Park breed for their carcass attributes. The quality of the Waratah Speckle Park herd encouraged them to make the long journey to the cold climate of Guyra. This was their second inspection, the first being at Christmas time.

Waratah Speckle Park headed to Rockhampton in May 2015.  After a wet set up we had a very enjoyable week meeting lot’s of interested people in the Speckle Park Breed. Our two workplace students from Downlands College, Kate and Cloe were a tremendous help to us at the site and in the show ring. Our thanks go to Steve their teacher as well. Our achievements  in the ring were as follows. Waratah females were unbeatable, winning Champion ribbons in all classes entered.
