Come and say hi!

Brisbane EKKA 2013

Waratah Speckle Park proudly returned home from 2013 EKKA, after winning the Grand Champion Speckle Park bull title.

Waratah Hume, 14 months of age weighed in at 473 kilograms and had an eye muscle area of 94 square centimetres.

Waratah’s success continued winning two ribbons in the steer carcass competition. Prepared and shown by Tenterfield High School, Tenterfield, and McIntyre High School, Inverell, the speckle park steers won third and fifth places in their individual weight classes respectively.

‘It is good to see the consistency of the Speckle Park breed,’ Laiton said, ‘there were other speckle park steers at the show who also won ribbons in the carcass competition.

Waratah Speckle Park stud is pleased to announce that it will be holding its first Speckle Park bull and female sale in July.  With over 200 stud embryo calves being born this year, Waratah Speckle Park’s future looks bright.

Steer carcass performs well in competition

As an exceptional performing breed in the carcass competitions in Canada, we had high expectations for our Speckles here in Australia.  And they’ve done us proud, taking out the Grand Champion steer both hoof and hook at Scone steer competition last year. In fact, the breed has been doing very well right across Australia, with great results (and wins) from local Australian hoof and hook carcass competitions.

We were proud to supply three of our quality steers to high schools and invite you to join us to support the hard work and dedications of the students and teachers, who will be showing them at the upcoming Brisbane Ekka.

The Speckle Park breed is growing, with several markets already established including the  butcher & restaurant markets and some much larger ones currently being explored. We believe the future for this breed is going to be BIG and we’re in good stead to lead the way!  Our trials have shown great success and with our current projected growth, we look forward to making our Sales an annual event where you can choose and purchase your own cattle at auction.

Beef Australia 2012 was a success

Beef Australia 2012 was a success winning 6 ribbons with 3 animals.  Waratah Power won both the Champion Calf Bull and Junior Bull awards.  He came second to the senior bull for the Grand Champion Bull ribbon.  Our 19-month-old heifer, Waratah Spanish Angel won her class as well as taking out the Grand Champion Female which forwarded her into the interbreed judging.  Waratah Ellis, our 31-month-old senior bull came second in his class and won Reserve Senior Champion Bull.  The judge commented that more fat coverage would have increased his chances at first place.  Prior to the show Ellis had been out with the cows so we were happy with the result.  The bull which succeeded Ellis, Wattle grove Rocket went into the interbreed and placed in the top 10 out of 31 breeds on display.  What great promotion for the breed.

Attending Beef Australia was a huge success not only in the show ring but also to promote the breed in QLD.  There was a lot of interest in the breed, with many positive comments and feedback.  We had interest from a couple of people wanting to start their own stud with the purchase of embryos, while others wanted to buy a bull or semen.  All the best to those who are making purchases and we look forward to hearing about your results.  We are planning to attend Beef Australia 2015.

    2012 Rockhampton Beef Week

After a tiring 950km journey Waratah Speckle Park has arrived at the 2012 Rockhampton Beef Week.  Waratah Speckle Park are among the 4000 head of cattle on display at this years show.  On exhibit is Waratah Ellis, Waratah Angel and Waratah Perfect.   Ellis weighed in at 960kg with an eye muscle of 124sq cm, which I think is considerably good after an 11 hour trip.  Speckle Park judging is at 1.30pm on Thursday in the main arena.  Come over and say G’day to us, we are in the Mckenzie shed.

    Annual Sale

Our next sale is: Monday, 11 July 2016
